Some folks look at me and see a certain swagger, which in Texas is called ‘walking’. My name is Jeffrey Scott Seevers. It is true that I have lived in Wisconsin, New Mexico, and Ohio but I was born in Texas and call it home. In one month I will officially be graduating from my audiology program at Lamar University as Dr. Seevers. That means for the first time in my life, since pre-k, I will not be in school! My path to student loans began at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA, where I graduated with my degree in health and medical studies. Shortly after graduation I heard about audiology and fell in love. I think hearing is a sense that is taken for granted until you or a family member/friend loses it. I got into this profession because I think everyone deserves the opportunity to hear. Sound shapes who we are and connects us to other people. Sound has the unique ability to change our emotions and how we feel at a given time. I cannot imagine what it is like not to hear music, talk to people, or not hear the applause of a crowd (one of my favorite sounds). I have a strong passion to help improve people’s quality of life through both science and technology.
I am excited to call A&E Audiology my new home. I have recently completed my one year audiology residency at A&E in Lancaster, PA. While here I learned how to properly pronounce Lancaster and have met some amazing friends, coworkers that I consider my work family, and made amazing connections with patients of A&E Audiology. I am truly appreciative of the experience and guidance I have received from my co-workers at A&E. Everyone has been very welcoming and has helped me grow as an individual and as an aspiring audiologist. I want to thank A&E and the patients for a truly remarkable experience.
I learned to balance school, family/friends, and tennis in college. This experience taught me that having a balanced life is important to success in life, which is why when I am not working, I enjoy going out and living life to the fullest. My love of hiking and the outdoors has taken me too many national parks across the country. My favorite would have to be hiking in Colorado, standing at the top of a mountain over 14,000 feet above sea level; it is an experience like no other. I consider myself a foodie and enjoy trying new foods and restaurants. So far, two of my favorite places to eat in the area are Hunger and Thirst and Bulls Head. I balance my love of food with a passion for exercise and sports. I enjoy going to the gym; I currently am training for my second triathlon at Universal Fitness Center here in Lancaster. I have run two marathons and love playing tennis. Exercise, in my opinion, is a great start to the morning and helps me enjoy my life and focus on goals throughout the day. I also enjoy reading books and playing board games. I particularly savor mystery books and historical fiction. My favorite games are Scattegories and RISK. My dream vacation at the moment is to go to Iceland!
Another passion of mine is hearing health care mission trips. I recently got back from a mission trip to Guatemala and it changed my life. Engaging in a mission trip before starting my career as a doctor of audiology gave me the perspective that hearing is truly a life changing gift that we can give to others, both in our neighborhoods and around the world. To see the impact I had on patients and to see their raw emotions was incredibly moving. I hope to serve on many more mission trips in the future and give the gift of hearing to patients in the Lancaster area also. I am excited to get to know and help the people in my new home and look forward to working with you in the future. I leave you with a quote that summarizes my approach to health care and my patients: “You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you, you’ll win, no matter what the outcome.”
